Telling His Story
Study Leader: Cindy Jones
Starts: Wednesday, January 20
Bring your Bible!
Most of us “know” the stories of David and Goliath, Noah and the flood, Moses and crossing the Red Sea. But how comfortable are you telling them to others? And would you be able to tie them together in the “big picture” story of the Old Testament? Yet we are commanded to tell His story to our children and spread His Word to a hurting world.
This study will focus on the powerful tool of storytelling to deepen our understanding of scripture and prepare us to share it with others. Over 12 weeks, we will look at the events of the Old Testament as God’s account of our beginnings and His unending commitment to offer His life to mankind. The scripture will be our textbook; and each week we will add a chapter to the story: Creation, Flood, Patriarchs, Joseph, Moses, Joshua and Judges, Saul and David, Solomon and Divided Kingdom, Prophets, Captivity, Return and Period between the testaments.
Books of 1, 2, & 3 John by Tony Evans
Study Leader: Renell Hutton
Starts: January 20
Comfortable Christianity often means a weak Christianity. In this study on John’s three letters, Dr. Tony Evans challenges Christians who have grown comfortable and complacent in their faith. Fellowship with God is the essence of our faith, and Tony walks through 1, 2 & 3 John to paint a picture of love, obedience, and truth. In a world that hates Jesus, we are called to love Him and his people with a fierce love.
The 4 Portraits of the Messiah
Study Leader: Elissa Heise
Starts: January 20
Take this pop quiz to see if you need this class.
Did you know that the following stories appear only once in the four gospels? Do you know where to find them without using a concordance? In which of the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) is each of these stories found?
- Martha was upset that her sister wasn’t helping with dinner preparations.
- Peter found a coin in the mouth of a fish to pay taxes for Jesus and himself.
- Jesus wrote in the sand convicting the men of their sin by order of age (oldest first).
- One of Jesus’ followers fled Gethsemane naked.
If you are a new believer, how can you ever learn to know your Bible that well? Take this class. If you’ve walked with Jesus a long time and you still couldn’t answer these questions, you need this class.
The answers to the questions above are: Luke 10, Matthew 17, John 8, and Mark 14. Learning the process of relating details to the author is very simple. (Learning the chapter numbers comes later in the follow-up classes.) Once you’ve experienced the course, you will come to know Jesus like never before and learn how to retain what you’ve read.
There is a method of remembering the details of the gospels based on the Four Living Beings in Ezekiel 1:10 and in Revelation 4:7. You will discover why there are four gospels and how they are organized. You will learn why certain stories are told by a given author and the way to remember who told which stories. You will be able to answer these questions and much more after taking this introductory class.
