Jim Carmichael earned Degrees at the University of Tennessee in Music Education and Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Emory University. A Rockwall resident since 1988, he has been playing the organ at FBC for the last 20 years. Jim stays busy with a large piano studio with many students in his home where he has taught for 30 years. We are grateful for all the work that Jim has done to make this concert a reality, from suggesting and choosing repertoire to allowing us to move two pianos into his living room (in addition to the two grands already there) for the last month. Come to think of it, maybe we should be thanking Jim’s wife, Brenda!
Sheryl Hanna has been playing piano since the age of five and at age nine played her first piano duet with her mother in church where her mother was the pianist. From that time on Sheryl was the pianist substitute whenever her mother was out. Sheryl graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Music Education and then completed a Master of Arts in Music from Stephen F. Austin University. Fun Fact: Sheryl was the pianist at Sunnyvale FBC when Trent arrived in 1995 as their first full time Minister of Music and was crucial in teaching him the lay of the land since she had really been running the music ministry with their part time Minister of Music.
Rachel Paul has been playing the piano since she was five years old. Coming from a very musical family, not taking piano lessons was not an option for Rachel and her siblings. She took her first church pianist job at Pleasant Grove FBC when she was 16 years old and has rarely been without one ever since. About three weeks after moving to Rockwall in 2004, she got a call from Michael Manley about FBCR, and that church has been her home ever since. Rachel has taught privately for many years and is currently teaching at the Rockwall School of Music. She also works frequently with several choir programs in local middle schools and high schools.
Gary Satterwhite began playing piano by ear at the age of five mostly so he could annoy his siblings as they tried to watch tv. He has been playing in worship for churches since he was 11 years old. Gary graduated from East Texas State (A&M) with a degree in Piano Performance and Computer Science. Gary and his wife Kelli have been playing piano together since the 7th grade, and Kelli says she has taught Gary everything that he knows. Gary has accompanied with our worship leader Trent for 23 years at Sunnyvale FBC, The Heights in Richardson and has now played for FBC Rockwall 2 different times, joining this last time in 2015.
